Interesting Facts About Wind Power

- Enron, which went bankrupt in late 2001, owned one of the largest manufacturing companies of Wind Turbines, Enron Wind Power Services. It was bought out by GE and it's assets put under their GE Power brand

- A proposed offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket sound (link) would use 130 wind turbines to produce 420 Megawatts of energy.

- The first offshore wind farm in the United States is currently in development near Deleware, 11.5 miles off the coast of Rehoboth beach.

- Worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators: approximately 94.1 gigawatts

- Largest Use of Wind Power: Denmark

- Humans have been using wind power for over 5,000 years, such as in sailboats and windmills

- In the United States as far back as 1930s Windmills were used to power farms where no distribution systems existed
